Our Finance Director. Loves a phone call. Has never been wrong. Not once, not ever. Big fan of processes and “doing stuff right”. Knows pi to over 43 decimal places…ish. Nope, we don’t know why either.

Dane is the financial and commercial glue (eurgh… sticky) that holds the business together. He’s responsible for all things finance – accounts, payments, reporting, strategy etc. – and manages our Finance Assistant, Jack. He’ll be the one chasing you like a pit bull if you haven’t paid your bills. You really don’t want that.

Q&A

How did you end up working at Kootoo?

I was actually the first client! I’d known Ian for a number of years having been a supplier to a previous business he’d been involved in. So, when he left that firm to setup Kootoo, I used them for a new website, graphic design, photography and general marketing support.

At the time Ian was doing everything. All the real marketing stuff with all the finance on top. I could see that as the business grew at the pace it was doing, that it would create a bottleneck. I’ve always had a natural talent for numbers, finance, and processes etc, so I told him what I thought I could bring to the business. Thankfully, Ian agreed and our beautiful partnership was formed.

Favourite project or client you've worked on at Kootoo?

I don’t really get involved in the delivery of most projects as I spend 99% of my time doing the bean counting and making sure people pay us on time. However, when I did, I’d have to say Apex Contracting.

They’re a payroll company based near our office. I took the lead on the development of a really flexible and quite complex PAYE and CIS ‘take home pay’ calculator for their new website (which we also designed/built for them).

It might look like a pretty simple tool, but the back end took a great deal of thought to get right. That, combined with the fact it was for a payroll/finance firm (and my love of numbers etc.) made it a natural fit for me.

Tell us something we wouldn’t know about you?

I’ve listed 3 below:

Only joking! I’m a massive motorsports fan. I’m also very partial to McDonald’s Double Cheeseburgers. This has led to me discovering a newfound love for the gym, mainly to make sure I don’t end up looking like I’ve been drawn with a compass.
