Matt Goodfellow

Our Director of Photography. Much like an elderly Republican, he’s been shooting people and objects for over 20 years but has somehow gotten away with it. Weapon of choice is a Canon. Loves depth of field. Hates auto mode. Has a disturbing penchant for lenses.

Matt is our in-house photographer and one of Kootoo’s directors – he also directs all of our videography projects. He’s shot for the likes of Hotel Chocolat, Umbro, Puma, the NHS, and (of course) his beloved Everton FC. We’d love to say something horrible about him but he’s just too nice.

Q&A

How did you end up working in photography?

From a very young age I’ve had a passion for photography, starting off with the ‘80s classic Polaroid and nicking my mum’s camera at every opportunity! My first job was as a junior photographer for a creative agency in Liverpool, and I loved getting the opportunity to collaborate with the marketing team on projects.

Fast forward 20 years and that’s exactly what we’re doing at Kootoo, photography acting as a stand-alone service, as well as perfectly complementing our other work like web design, graphic design etc.

Favourite project or client you've worked on at Kootoo?

Sounds easy to say but I really do enjoy working with all our clients. Every client shoot brings a different challenge whether that’s the location, the conditions, or finding a creative angle to visually promote the business.

SEP Rail Services and Amaro, though, are two companies that go above and beyond. They’re fully invested in what we do and how we work, and that’s not just limited to photography. That energy and attention to detail from the board and management right through to the site teams allows us to do what we do so well, and you can see how much they enjoy working with us. Even when we’re being battered by the textbook British weather conditions…

Tell us something we wouldn’t know about you?

In my spare time I run two kids’ football teams, taking up pretty much every weekend. Managing all those kids – and their parents – is more stressful than even the most demanding client!

Who would be your dream client to work with?

I love to travel and photograph anywhere, whether it’s close to home, the Highlands of Scotland or further afield. Exploring a city and discovering new places (sometimes by mistake) is something I never tire of, especially if I get to enjoy a cold beer at the end.

So, if any breweries out there are reading this and would like me to photograph their products from different parts of the world, then I’m your man!
