What’s that Abba song?
Let’s get real here, Google only cares about two things…
- Making obscene amounts of money through advertising
- Providing the most relevant search results to their users
So, if you want your business to be in those golden top 3 results, you’re going to have to show them that you’re an authority in your space. That means taking care of every element of your on-site, off-site and technical SEO.
Quality > Quantity
Quality content is one of the core principles here. You can’t just churn out any old nonsense and expect people to buy your stuff. The businesses that succeed with SEO are the ones that take the time to research the questions that their ideal buyers are asking, and then answer them with informative, shareable and easily discoverable pieces of content. Not once, but consistently over several months and sometimes years.
You’re also going to want to boost your domain authority by building up backlinks from other reputable websites and online publications. And they’re not going to do that if you aren’t providing them with valuable content that will also benefit their visitors.
Disclaimer: If you’re sat here thinking SEO is an overnight job, then prepare to be sorely disappointed. Unless you’re in an incredibly niche industry with minimal competition, this is a long-term game that requires long-term thinking and long-term investment.
But unlike PPC, where the traffic and ads stop as soon as you stop paying, SEO allows you to build a steady stream of consistent revenue simply by being at the top of the search engines. Once you make it, the only thing you need to worry about is staying there.
