Our Web Developer extraordinaire. Has a cat called Beyonce. Huge gaming fan. Reigning world champion at Space Invaders and Donkey Kong (honest). Mari hails from Brazil and, for some unknown reason, has chosen to trade in beaches, carnivals and sunshine to move to Liverpool. Seriously.

She takes Chris’ beautiful designs and turns them into high-converting websites. On one hand, she’s one of the best developers we’ve ever worked with. On the other, her favourite band is McFly. What the Lord giveth…

Q&A

How did you end up working in web development?

When I was a kid, I was always on the PC, playing computer games or listening to music. So, when I left school, I knew I wanted to work with computers in some way. At the time, my dad suggested becoming a software engineer or programmer. It was the ‘future’ as far as he was concerned. And he had a point!

Shortly after starting uni, I got an internship in a web agency working on websites within the music industry. I was so happy that I could combine my passions for coding and music together. I actually got to work on the website for Luan Santana, who is a famous singer in Brazil. After that, web development had my heart, and the rest is history.

Favourite project or client you've worked on at Kootoo?

Eastcote Hockey Club. It was a big project for a large community hockey club based in the south of England. It was a really complex project, but I got to learn a huge amount by building it. Chris absolutely smashed the design and it was a joy bringing it to life. I have the most fun with the most challenging projects, and I’m super proud of how this one turned out.

Tell us a little bit about your background in Brazil and what life looked like for you then?

Brazilian people don’t really need an excuse to party. Everything is a celebration. When you have a big family like mine (my mom has 9 siblings), you can imagine how crazy the house gets every weekend.

After my marriage, we got a new cat – her name is Beyonce! She was the reason we had to get AC in our flat as we could tell she was melting with the heat. Living in the UK is so different now and she’s super happy as it’s much cooler here. Shame about the rain, though…

Who would be your dream client to work with?

I’m really into gaming, so working with a gaming company would be amazing. To be honest, it doesn’t even have to be a big one. I just adore the industry.
